Autumn Cardigan Glory

Tuesday, September 19, 2017

If you're into mastering fall layers to a T, you should get yourself a chunky and snug cardigan this season. Yup, the old favourite is making a huge return with its geek-chic connotations and I like it! I am planning to wear mine under jackets and over trench coats, denim tops, tees, sweaters and even tie them with a belt (or a scarf) for that extra dose of coziness...

Here are six beauties that might tickle your fancy:

From the top: 1. Oversized yellow cardigan - 2. Cashmere wool cardigan - 3. Mini emerald cardigan - 4. The square cardigan - 5. Fiona cardigan - 6. Morgat cardigan.

Any favourites?

P.S: Head-to-toe black.
P.P.S: Also, if you sent me an email yesterday, chances are I didn't get it because of yesterday's worldwide Hotmail glitch, so please send it again and I'll reply in a jiffy. Promise:)

Painted World

I don't know about you, but I am totally smitten with Danna Ray's incredible work! This brilliant artist often chooses to paint directly on location just so she can explore sensory perceptions of time and movement in changing landscapes.

And speaking of painting outdoors, she recently said something that really stayed with me...

'Painting outdoors was one of many things I swore off when I was younger. It always sounded good until I got overwhelmed by gnats, mosquitoes, fire ants, oppressive heat, bits of leaves blowing into the paint. Surely adulthood has something to do with the ability to tolerate discomfort for a chance at joy or transformation.'

We all adapt when we really want something, don't we?

P.S: Outings.
P.P.S: Museum of selfies.

Make Your Home Smell Like Fall

Monday, September 18, 2017

With the official start of fall this week and the crisp morning air that sneaks upon Jenny and I while taking our usual walks, I’ve been slowly but surely taking advantage of this changing season. One of my new favourites is this simple trick to make our flat smell, well, like an autumn apple pie. It’s an easy combination of an apple core, sprinkled with a generous amount of cinnamon, a dash of olive oil and placed in a hot oven for about 10-15 minutes.

Try it and you’ll be surprised how something so simple will fill your space with the most comforting scent there is. Happy almost fall, everyone.

P.S: Fancy more?
P.P.S: Ah, this too!

School Lunches Around The World

Did you know that on a typical day, 32 million children in the U.S. eat cafeteria food? Yup! The numbers vary around the world but children from many other counties also have the routine of eating their lunch at school.

Intrigued by the statistics, Sweetgreen decided to actually take a look at what kids really eat and how healthy those meal really are. So, they created this clever series of nine cafeteria lunch trays and the difference is astonishing, if you ask me! Thoughts?

P.S: Food faces.
P.P.S: And this.

Yay! It’s Wednesday Cake!

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Fancy embracing a little tradition this fall? I’m starting one today, because you know, Wednesdays somehow feel like they need a mini celebration and Catherine definitely agrees. She is all about celebrating the every-day, embracing the mundane and she does it in the most scrumptious of ways - by baking a simple cake for her family on, YES, Wednesdays! She doesn’t do it every single week but when she does, everyone has a better day!

Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

So, to motivate myself to actually stick to my Wednesday-cake-making tradition, I’m going to post the recipes of my celebratory cakes every Wednesday starting next week. This way, you might fancy making one too or you might just enjoy seeing what I stuff my face with:) Regardless, it will be fun. But if you do join in, send me the photo of you creation when you have a chance. Deal?

P.S: Did you know there is a a scientific way to cut a cake?
P.P.S: Speaking of...

10 Minutes a Day

Fancy making your days a bit more calm and balanced? Simply do something you love for at least 10 minutes a day and your whole world will change for the better.

According to Frank Lipman, ' this simple practice is incredibly powerful and healing. We all think we don’t have time, but most of us can find it somewhere. It doesn’t have to be a big deal: Shoot hoops in the driveway. Sketch something on the bus home. Blast music and dance around the living room. Pick up an instrument and play three pieces. Do it on purpose, like taking a supplement.'

I'm in, you? Will you try it?

P.S: Llama type of day.
P.P.S: An overlooked secret to happiness.

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Swoon, meet Suki, the outdoorsy cat who lives the dream in Canada! This little rascal loves a good adventure especially when it's somewhere in the mountains and near open water. Isn't he something else?

Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree Cleaning Tip

Do you own a fiddle leaf fig tree? If so, here is a great tip to keep its leaves super clean and beautifully shiny at all times: next time you're about to give it a good wipe-through, instead of using just a damp towel, use a few drops of coconut oil on a soft cotton kitchen towel. Gently rub the top of the leaves and voilá!

P.S: Grow your own celery.

Shiny Hair Rinse

Monday, September 11, 2017

Fancy making your hair shine? Try this old Austrian remedy that will do just that:

Whisk 2 egg yolks and 2 1/2 tablespoons of Cognac together until smooth. Work the mixture into your clean, wet hair, brushing it through with a wide-toothed comb. When finished, rinse out with lukewarm water, then rinse your hair a second time, but this time add 1 1/2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar to the water running over your hair (for extra shine). Ta-dah!

I did that twice last week and I'm totally smitten with the result. So easy, so natural and so good! Try it...

P.S: Plus, this...
P.P.S: And that.
